NYC = New York Color Mini Haul!

hola bellas!

i went to rite aid yesterday and saw the yellow sticker that said "40% off all nyc cosmetics." of course, i had to look. this is my new york color mini haul ^_^

this is my first eyeliner marker, yay! at first i was excited to use it, because i've heard that you get more control using a marker with a tip to help guide you make a wing line.. but since my liner applying skills are not precise, i still had a hard time using this eyeliner marker. first off, the color goes on sheer black even though it is in the shade "extra black." secondly, the tip of the marker is so pointy, after retracing the line, it started being a pain to use it over again. my crease line is almost non-existent so the felt tip is somewhat too fat that i ended up looking like i had bruised eyes. what i do like about this marker is that if you are a beginner at applying eyeliner, you can easily wipe any mistakes with a cotton swab.

from nyc's page for this eyeliner:

THE ULTIMATE MISTAKE-PROOF APPLICATION! With NYC’s High Definition Liquid Liner you can forget those messy traditional liquid formulas that require a steady hand. The chic, liquid pen delivers smooth, fast-drying results whether you want a super-thin modern line or a thick, full-blown retro cat-eye flick. And the formula is smudge-proof and long-lasting—up to 10 hours of wear! HIGH GLAM WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. UBER-BLACK PERFECTION IN AN INSTANT!

would i buy this again? probably not. but it is good for beginners. also my biggest peeve about this marker is that the liquid bleeds into the fine lines of my skin. no matter how careful i was, i would have uneven lines. C

i am very sad to say, i was disappointed with this kit. it has confusing packaging, and with me being dumb with make up stuff, i didn't know what to put on first. the grooming wax or the powder, or what. i didn't see any instructions. my only favourite item from this kit, i would say are the mini tweezers. pulling out any stray hairs made my brows look better than using the wax or the brow powder.

from the nyc brow kit:

NYC New York Color Browser Brush-On Brow Powder with Grooming Wax and Tweezers is your complete kit for beautiful brows! Makes the most of your eyebrows... with better than natural results. Long-lasting grooming wax holds hairs neatly in place for all day perfection... powder fills in bare spots... who can ask for more?

this is how my experience went.
the brush applicator is so stiff it hurt my browskin and it dug so deep into the wax and powder, i was afraid that even being too gentle would still add too much product onto the brush. so i had to use one of my other softer brushes. i watched a tutorial on youtube on how to apply this, and first, you need to dip your applicator onto the wax, then to the powder, and apply it to your brows. my brow hairs are thick, so the wax was not a good idea. it looked like i had glued fake eyelashes onto my brows. the horror! the powder color is a true brown, which is good, but it will not adhere to your skin unless you use the wax or water to put it on. in the end, it gave my brows a dirty, "smudgy" look which i wasn't happy about.
in my opinion, this is a very poor brow kit in terms of quality and color. the packaging, the brush, the combo does not make me want to buy it again. i hope nyc cosmetics will improve this kit in time to come. C-

hmm, i'm not very happy with this either. it has a dry, powder finish. it might be the wrong shade on me. i have yellow undertones, and this cover stick seems to go on like a light salmon color on my skin. i don't think it should be applied on its own. it would be better to add liquid foundation or concealer on top of this. it really did not help cover my dark circles or any blemishes i have since it just ended up like i had patches of white powder on my face. thank you for taking the time to read my ramble and reviews, and i hope that you find my thoughts on my nyc mini haul entertaining and a bit informative! and oh yeah, i paid less than $10 for all these! hooray for drug-store brands! ^_~

and if you're wondering about the applelicious lipbalm, that will be in my next post. i am going to rave about it since it is so delicious! it's definitely my favorite from this nyc mini haul. ally<3
